P & I Supplies and Repairs Ltd – Lynne Arbuckle, Sales ExecutiveP & I Supplies and Repairs is an independent, family owned, business established in 1984 by the current directors’ parents. Some twenty years on, from their base in Glasgow’s Port Dundas Trading Estate, the company has developed considerably and now provides a vast range of supplies for the electrical, mechanical and construction industries throughout the UK and Ireland.

As the daughter in a family business, Lynne Arbuckle, who is still just 21 years of age, grew up within the business environment. Lynne gradually showed more interest in the business until one day she identified a need to generate additional business and suggested someone should get out on the road and do some selling. Her parents threw down the challenge to her and said “OK on you go then”. They gave her 6 months to prove her worth. Needless to say she made quite an impact on the sales figures and has continued to drive the sales of the business “Our customer base expanded 250% in three years through sheer hard work, determination, and through the provision of an excellent service but managing this growth proved quite difficult”. It became apparent to Lynne and her parents that they needed to do something to help manage the growth better. As luck would have it a brochure for the business map landed on the desk.

Before coming on the business map Lynne was unsure what the future held for her but now she is totally focused on what she wants to achieve and knows exactly how she is going to do it. ”When I walked into the MAP I was twenty years old with no real direction of where I wanted to go and what I could contribute to the future of our business. I came out enthusiastic, with a clear vision and strategy to get us to where we want to be with The Business Map to guide me”.

Since completing the business map, Lynne has set herself the goal of becoming a director of P & I within 5 years. Lynne gained so much from the programme that she was given not only the tools and knowledge to become a director but also the confidence to achieve her goals ”The learning environment was fantastic for me. The experts who shared their knowledge and experience, made it a relaxed and interactive experience with the other participants providing a wealth of experience that seems to apply to every business that I’ll use to take our company forward.”
