H & F Drilling – Kevin Mallin, Sales Director

H & F Drilling – Kevin Mallin, Sales DirectorIn 1986 H&F Drilling Supplies was formed to supply and service the onshore drilling industry in Scotland. H&F are now the largest independent manufacturer, stockist and supplier of drilling equipment in the UK. Supplying to all the different sectors of the market-place H&F describe themselves as the original 'One Stop Drill Shop'.

Sales Director, Kevin Mallin with 20 years experience in the drilling industry, was brought into the business by the current owners in order to restructure the business; focus on strengthening the foundations of the business and to grow the business from £4m to £10m turnover within 5 years.

From the outset, Kevin realised that The Business Map would help H&F to achieve their ambitious growth strategy and provide a dynamic, enjoyable experience along the way. The Business Map provided an invaluable tool to the company, highlighting growth potential which would have otherwise been overlooked, especially customer support activities”.

After the residential weekend, at the start of the programme, it was clear that The Map would be an invaluable experience, helping the business to further its potential and refine its strategy to meet their growth plans. “The residential weekend was an inspired idea, as it helped the group to gell into a “Virtual Organisation” with us all bringing our own strengths and weaknesses to the table”

The cross section of business types and the levels of experience within the group added to the learning experience for everyone involved on the programme. Kevin also realised that the delivery style of the programme encouraged interaction and healthy debate. “Interval type approach to presentation of material – raise the pulse, relax, jog, sprint – just like real business!!....fantastic mix of material, learning styles and group work…..made me realise that some of the things I believed to be “The Right Way” were not quite as they seemed”.

“Having worked from drilling rig floor to regional board of Ingersoll-Rand, the course made me review a large chunk of my ideas of business. And the finest compliment I can pay the course thus far is when my wife asked me if it was tiring I unhesitatingly replied “……not at all”. “I can honestly say that it will probably be the best business investment that any company could make”.

It can be difficult to sum up the impact The Business Map has on a person and their business, Kevin Mallin makes a pretty good attempt however: “I have to say that the course has had a profound effect on myself, the way I do business and the way my company does business. I have learnt new skills, reinforced old skills and learnt a great deal about myself”.
