Charles Scott & Partners – Steven Hughes, Partner
Charles
Scott & Partners are an independent firm of consulting engineers
with around 30 staff, providing engineering services in a wide range
of disciplines including Civil, Structural, Mechanical and Electrical
Engineering.
Steven Hughes had recently been made a Partner in the firm and was encouraged to attend the business map to develop his management abilities in his new role. Steven was reluctant to come on the programme thinking it would be a waste of time, especially in his challenging role as partner, but under some duress signed up.
He was looking for the programme to allow him to review and better
understand the business, challenge some of the more traditional ways
of the firm and perhaps look for a better way. Steven was delighted
that he was pushed onto the programme, as it addressed what he was
looking for and much more. After the initial residential weekend,
he was hooked on the programme, realised the power of learning in
a relaxed group of like minded people from a wide spectrum of businesses:
“I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend. I started
the course as a complete sceptic not believing that I could get anything
from it. What a turnaround, I left on Sunday having had a great time
from a good bunch of people and not only that I had more knowledge,
improved hope and renewed motivation. I am looking forward to the
next session and hope the course continues on the pace that was set
at the weekend.”
Steven took a great deal from the business map and is using his new management knowledge and skill to challenge and improve all aspects of the business. In fact, he is so convinced that the programme delivers the goods and make a difference, he encouraged one of his colleagues to participate and they attended another programme. To sum up, Steven said “The course is a must for all small to medium businesses. It provides you with the tools to investigate and strengthen the foundation of your firm. A strong foundation enables you to build from the bottom up.”
